Disability Rights of North Carolina

Disability Rights North Carolina is the protection and advocacy (P & A) system in North Carolina. P&A is a federally mandated system and exists in each state, territory and qualified Native American consortium. P&As protect the rights of persons with disabilities through legally based advocacy. There are currently 57 P&As nationally.

Exceptional Children's Assistance Center

Exceptional Children's Assistance Center (ECAC) is a private non-profit organization that is operated by and staffed primarily with parents of children with disabilities and special health care needs.

Family Support Network

The Family Support Network at Mission Children's Hospital offers an extensive lending library of resources related to raising a child with a wide variety of developmental, physical and medical concerns. Our team provides a formal peer mentoring or connection program for the parent/caregiver as well as monthly Family Group Nights with educational workshops. We also provide experienced staff support with information, resources and navigating the community services.

The Family Support Network is located at Mission Children's Hospital Reuter Outpatient Center. We accept referrals from the child’s primary care provider or self-referrals. To learn more about our services, please call (828) 213-0033 or (800) 810-2800, ext. 2.

Mobile Crisis Management

Mobile Crisis Management is a team of behavioral health professionals, available 24 / 7 / 365, that provides intensive, on-site intervention to people of all ages who are experiencing a crisis due to mental health disturbances, developmental disabilities, or addiction. Our goal is to safely stabilize the person at home, work, school, or wherever in the community the crisis occurs.

When you need help or information for yourself, your family or someone you know all you need to do is dial 2-1-1 or visit NC211.org to get connected. Dial 2-1-1, it’s FREE, 24/7, and available in all languages. NC 211 is an information and referral service provided by United Way of North Carolina. Families and individuals can call 2-1-1 or 1-888-892-1162 to receive free and confidential information on health and human services within their community.

Vaya Health LME/MCO

Vaya Health LME/MCO is a public managed care organization that oversees Medicaid, state and local funding and offers a comprehensive health plan for individuals and families in need of mental health, substance use or intellectual /developmental disability services. Vaya manages prevention, treatment and crisis services in 23 counties in western North Carolina. Vaya has staff present in 21 counties and regional offices in Sylva, Asheville, Boone, Lenoir and Waynesville. Vaya's health plan covers eligible individuals in Alexander, Alleghany, Ashe, Avery, Buncombe, Caldwell, Cherokee, Clay, Graham, Haywood, Henderson, Jackson, Macon, Madison, McDowell, Mitchell, Polk, Rutherford, Swain, Transylvania, Watauga, Wilkes and Yancey counties. Vaya Health LME/MCO Customer Service staff are available to help consumers and their family members address any questions, concerns or problems they are having with the services they are receiving from Vaya Health LME/MCO or from our Provider Community, or to help meet any unmet needs. Special Needs Registry with 911 Emergency Responders

The Special Needs Registry provides vital information to emergency responders in the event of a 9-1-1 call and/or during a widespread disaster (e.g. hurricane, flood, blizzard, power outage, disease outbreak). This program is voluntary and individuals on the registry have the option to accept or deny assistance. Completion of this form in no way guarantees that the registered individual will receive immediate or preferential treatment in a disaster.
